Jacksonville, AL Artillery

When submitting, the category is “Loose Cannon”. I can assure you that this little baby isn’t loose! It is very well secured as there is a long drop off just a few feet from the front of this cannon.

I am fairly confident that the little restaurant across the road never wants to upset the people at the American Legion Post 57 in Jacksonville, AL. This cannon is aimed to fire rounds right over that little restaurant. Even a dummy round or blank would rattle the tables.

I didn’t stop to check where that second cannon was aimed. Hmmm

Starbuck’s in Cullman, AL

Starbucks in Cullman, AL

Close to the hospital to be able to support the medical staff. Just because they are educated doesn’t mean the understand “ONE WAY”. But they are educated enough that the lady was able to hold her phone, hold her Starbucks (I don’t dare call is just coffee), apply her make-up, and STILL manage to drive her Lexus oversized SUV. This is why we motorcyclist MUST stay aware, they don’t!

I’ll get off my soap box and go back to riding deserted back roads! Talladega Scenic Byway is the goal for the day, then back home.

Rick’s BBQ in Muscle Shoals, AL

Rick’s BBQ in Muscle Shoals, AL on Wilson Dam Road. (Not to be confused with Rick’s Farm Market.)

One of the few chains that really do great BBQ. We have even used them for large parties. My wife will order a tray of each of the pork and beef BBQ, as well as a smoked ham (the bone just slides out and people just tear how much meat they want!).

This chain is based out of Lawrenceburg, TN and has kept pretty close to home. They are currently located only in south central Tennessee and northwest Alabama.

South’s Best BBQ

South’s Best BBQ (yes, this is the name) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This is on Wilson Dam Road.

I cannot count the times each week that I past this place. I have yet to test their name to see if they really are the South’s Best BBQ. The bad part about living in an area with a LOT of BBQ places, it is hard to NOT find a good place.

I will admit that the ones that are closed on Sunday and Monday are usually better places. Sunday they go to church. Monday they are back at the pits getting the meat started. They open on Tuesday through Saturday. If they are REALLY good, you can tell because they close early due to running out of BBQ. The pits can only hold so much at a time.

John’s BBQ in Moulton, AL

Stopped to visit a great place to eat on my way to spend the day on the bike. There are two locations of John’s BBQ; this location on Hwy 157, and the other is the original location near the hospital. Service is great, people are nice, and the food is outstanding! I have eaten at both places and it is hard to pick a favorite, so I just swap between the two.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Cher recorded her first record here, and the cover photo was taken in front of the sound studio.

The Rolling Stones recorded here. When you come to town, get a tour of this place! It is awesome! David Hood’s wife led the tour that we were on a few years ago, and several of The Swampers were at the studio.

Muscle Shoals Sound is in Sheffield. Florence Alabama Music Enterprises (better known as FAME Studios) is in Muscle Shoals. In the quad cities there are many recording studios with long histories. And most are still being used today.

BBQ and Dogs

I could smell the smokers in the back getting ready for a new day.

This place is also known for its hot dogs. When the hospital was a few blocks away, the line to get in to order was out the door and down the street. But well worth the wait.

Florence American Legion – Artillery

I needed to get some wind therapy. Decided to get some points for the AULDR, Tour of Honor, and the BMW Coddiwomple. Today’s first stop is the American Legion in Florence, AL to get a picture of their artillery!
